If you are struggling with belly fat that you can’t seem to get rid of, a tummy tuck may be the ideal solution for you. A tummy tuck will give you the firmer, flatter tummy you desire, but understandably, you will be anxious to see the results. So be sure to ask your plastic surgeon – When will I see results from my tummy tuck.
What’s involved in a tummy tuck?
A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty involves removing excess skin and stubborn fat from the abdominal region, and tightening the skin and abdominal muscles. Tummy tuck surgery may be combined with liposuction if patients have a lot of abdominal fat. Liposuction is performed with the help of a cannula (small tube) that is used to break up the fatty tissue, which is then removed with the attached suction.
Most patients need to take 2-3 weeks off work after abdominoplasty.
When will you see results from your tummy tuck?
The healing time after a tummy tuck varies, depending on the extent of the procedure. Patients should see a significant difference immediately after the operation, as the sagging skin will be gone. However, post-procedural swelling will obscure new body contours for at least 2-3 weeks. Most of the swelling should resolve within that time, but some swelling and fullness in the lower abdomen may persist for up to 3 months. It may take 6-12 months for the wound to fully heal, and final results to show (click here to learn more).
