If you need to tone and tighten your body but you’re not quite ready for surgery, SmartLipo is the ideal alternative. SmartLipo or laser assisted liposuction, incorporates laser technology into the liposuction procedure. The laser melts the fat, and also tightens the skin. But how does the procedure work, and what is the recovery like after a SmartLipo treatment.
SmartLipo Treatment
SmartLipo is a minimally invasive fat reduction treatment that targets areas such as the abdomen, thighs, and arms. Most people only need one treatment to achieve optimal results. A session lasts 45-60 minutes.
How it works
A local anesthesia is first used to numb the area being treated. A cannula (small tube) containing a laser fiber is then inserted into the skin, via a small incision. The cannula is moved back and forth throughout the fat layer, and this liquefies the fat cells. The fat is then suctioned out.
There is minimal bruising and swelling and less trauma with SmartLipo, when compared with traditional liposuction, because the laser coagulates the blood vessels.
What is the recovery like?
Patients can expect to experience some soreness, swelling, and bruising after SmartLipo, and this may typically takes 7-10 days to resolve. You may be required to wear a compression garment for about 1 week after treatment, to help with recovery.
Doctors generally advise resting for the first few days after the procedure, and then gradually resumingactivitieswithin 3-4 days. Exercise can be restarted after 2 weeks. The final results of SmartLipo can take up to 6 months to show.
