How can I safely reduce the size of my nose?

Do you think that your nose is so big that it draws attention from your other facial features? If yes, and you would like to do something about it, you are probably wondering how you can safely reduce the size of your nose.

How can I safely reduce the size of my nose?

You can safely reduce the size of your nose with rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty also known as a ‘nose job,’ is a surgical procedure that is done to reshape the nose. Rhinoplasty involves increasing or decreasing the size of the nose, altering the tip or bridge, or adjusting the angle between the nose and upper lip. It can also be carried out to fix breathing difficulties.

How is surgery performed?

Rhinoplasty to reduce the size of the nose (reduction rhinoplasty) may involve reducing the overall size of the nose, or reducing a specific area such as the nasal tip.

Rhinoplasty is generally performed using a closed or open technique. The incisions for both procedures are made within the nostrils, in order to access the bone and cartilage. However, with open rhinoplasty an additional incision is made in the area between the nostrils (columella). This allows the surgeon to access the tip of the nose.

During reduction rhinoplasty the surgeon will remove some bone and/or cartilage, to resize the nose. The skin will then be redraped to cover the underlying framework. A splint is also applied to help maintain the new shape of the nose.

Recovery after rhinoplasty

Most patients can resume light activities the day after rhinoplasty, but strenuous activities should be avoided for at least 6 weeks.
